Explosives Engineering Training & Education Survey

Northern Wyoming Community College District - Gillette College in conjunction with the Northern Plains Chapter ISEE both located in Gillette, WY are exploring industry interest in Gillette College offering training and education programs in explosives engineering. The training program would be an introduction to basic blasting concepts and the education portion would be an Associates of Applied Science in Explosves Engineering Technology. 1. At your place of employment, what steps are currently in place to train a blaster with no experience?
2. Do you feel these steps are adequate?
3. What content do you feel should be covered in a Basic Blasting Concepts training?
Education
A. If an Associates of Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Explosives Engineering Technology existed, what type of content would be most beneficial?
B. Along with the traditional semester-based classroom delivery method, on-line and accelerated classes are being explored. For accelerated classes that may require travel in order to attend, is there a certain time of year that is better than others? Please indicate what you feel would work best.
C. For Supervisors: Do you think you would hire someone with an A.A.S. Degree in Explosives Engineering Technology over someone with limited experience? Please explain what you feel would be the difference.
D. For Blaster Technicians: Would you personally be interested in an A.A.S Degree in Explosives Engineering Technology? Please explain, such as do you feel it would help you with career advancement, personal achievement, etc.?
